Alumni Career Services Policy

Purpose:Career Services is committed to supporting alumni in their career development. While our primary focus is on assisting current students and recent graduates with entry-level career opportunities, we recognize that alumni may still benefit from guidance as they navigate their professional paths. To ensure we can meet the needs of both groups effectively, the following policy will apply to alumni seeking career assistance:

  1. Service Availability:

    • Alumni are eligible for up to two individual career advising appointments per calendar year. These appointments may focus on career transitions, job search strategies, resume reviews, or interview preparation.
  2. Scope of Assistance:

    • Career Services primarily provides support for entry-level roles and early-career development. Alumni looking for more specialized assistance in advanced career stages, industry-specific roles, or leadership positions may be referred to external resources for more comprehensive support.
  3. Role of Career Services:

    • Career Services provides the tools and resources for a successful job search, but it is important to understand that we are not responsible for securing employment for alumni. Our services, including resume assistance, interview preparation, and job search strategies, are designed to empower individuals in their job search process. Ultimately, the responsibility for applying for jobs, attending interviews, and securing a position rests with the individual.
    • While we strive to guide alumni toward professional success, job market conditions, competition, and individual effort all play significant roles in determining employment outcomes.
  4. Additional Resources:
Alumni are encouraged to explore the following resources for job searching, professional development, and career advancement:

    • Professional Associations: Joining associations related to your industry can provide access to job boards, networking opportunities, and professional development programs.
    • LinkedIn: Utilize LinkedIn鈥檚 job search feature and professional groups for networking and finding relevant job openings.
    • Job Boards: Sites like Indeed, Glassdoor, and ZipRecruiter offer a wide variety of job postings across different industries.
    • Local Chambers of Commerce: Many local Chambers offer networking events and job resources.
    • Online Learning Platforms: Coursera, edX, and LinkedIn Learning offer a variety of courses for career advancement and skill development.
  5. Referrals:

    • Alumni needing more in-depth or ongoing career assistance will be referred to external career coaches, professional mentors, or specialized job placement agencies.

This policy aims to provide fair and effective support to alumni while maintaining our commitment to preparing current students and new graduates for their future careers.
